The Mindset Behind Success
If you’re feeling that succeeding in life is something that other people do then don’t worry, you’re hardly alone in that. If there’s one thing that I’ve learned over the course of my life is that being successful isn’t as hard as is often thought. In fact the only thing stopping anyone from success is developing the correct mindset behind it, what I like to refer to as the mindset behind success, which will allow you to enjoy life and succeed in the correct way.
That mindset, and the couple of simple tricks needed to cultivate it is what I want to take the time to talk to you about today. Honestly, none of these things are hard to do, they’re just not obvious until someone tells you about them, so read on and I’ll tell you about a couple of simple things which will change your life forever. Because the great secret to the mindset behind success is simply combining both direction and courage.
I remember back when I was young and just getting started with my life, and it seemed to me that there were some people around who just seemed to have some sort of free pass at this whole business of living. They were happy, everything they turned their hands to just seemed to work, and they always seemed to have everything they wanted, even in some cases where they appeared to have nothing at all.
I look at the life I lead now and I can honestly say that I’ve come to a point where I understand what it’s like to be one of those inherently successful people.
I wasn’t happy with my life, I was working 9-5 jobs doing things I hate, with no time to pursue the things which I didn’t even get the chance to know were important to me. I was surrounded by people I couldn’t relate to and had no idea how to change things for the better, or even that they could be changed. I’ve gone from that life, and from being someone that I honestly didn’t like or respect, to being genuinely in tune with my life and happy.
I travel the world even though I’m not what would normally be considered rich, and I’ve made some of the greatest friendships that I honestly think anyone could hope for. I do work that I choose to do, not merely because I have to, but because I find it fulfilling and interesting. I live a life where I actually have the free time to pursue the depths of spirituality and genuine compassion for humanity, and I enjoy the freedom of being able to spend my time actually helping people, rather than hurriedly thinking that helping them would be a great idea, but that I can’t because there’s just so much to do right now and there’s no time.
It took a long time for me to eventually learn the secrets to these couple of rather simple tricks that these seemingly blessed people seemed to be born with, and largely the reason why it took so long is because I was always looking in the wrong place.
Probably much like you yourself may have done, I always looked outside for the answers, I should have been looking in.
Let’s Learn The Mindset Behind Success
Come with me. You and me are going to go on a journey across this page together. We’re going to look at some of the most important things that you’ll need to learn, and by the end you’ll know exactly how to change all those things in your life that are holding you back from success and happiness. By the end, you’ll have all the ingredients needed to create a life filled with joy and beauty. So come along now, this is going to change everything.
Understand Your Priorities and Make Them Real
I think you’ll agree that the first and most important thing is to know what it is that you want from life. What are your priorities. If you don’t even have a clear idea of where it is that you want to be then I’m sure you’ll agree that you’re unlikely to get there.
You need to think about what you want to do.
I’d like you to imagine that you’re sitting down a few years from now and you’ve achieved your perfect life. I want you to imagine what that life looks like, try to see all of the things that are different from the life you have now. Think hard about this because those differences are the things that need changing or fixing, imagine them and then write them all down one by one.
Do this and you’ll make them concrete, you’ll make them real. Once they’re real then they’ll be vastly easier for you to understand and change.
Then you’re going to start working to change them, one at a time. Don’t try to fix everything at once, break it up into easily digestible pieces, that’s the way to see progress.
I want to ask you something. What is Courage?
Many people equate courage with the lack of fear, we say that someone’s fearless and brave, even though they’re two things which are by definition mutually exclusive. Courage and bravery are the overcoming of fear. Fear must be present in order to overcome it and so in reality, when someone is brave or shows courage, it means that they’re afraid and yet pushed past their fear in order to achieve what it was that they set out to do. Wouldn’t you agree?
You must not be afraid of fear. Fear is normal and utterly natural. If there’s one thing that I’d like you to take away from reading this is that it’s okay to be afraid. It’s okay to be afraid of change, to be afraid of failure, to be afraid that if you try to improve your life and don’t succeed, then everyone will think of you as a failure for doing so.
It’s normal to be afraid of all of these things. What is not okay though, is to allow that fear to dominate you and to dictate to you the path upon which you’re allowed to live your life. Every day that you allow yourself to be dominated by fear and so restricted from achieving your goals, is a day filled with failure. A far more comfortable failure for sure but failure all the same.
I need to ask you to take a look at that list you just made of the differences between that perfect life you imagined, and the one you have now. I’d like you to imagine the things you’d need to actually do in order to make those changes. Does the idea of doing those things fill you with fear?
Why should you be afraid of something which will make your life better? You’re probably afraid to change careers to something more fulfilling because you’re afraid of quitting your job. But I ask you, why be afraid of losing something you don’t want and getting something you do? It makes no sense.
You have to learn to take your fear and ignore it. It’s natural yes, but it most certainly isn’t rational and it has no place having a voice and a vote when you’re making decisions about the direction of your life.
But how do you conquer fear? I’m telling you now, there’s no real trick to it, you just ignore it by an act of will and go about your business as if it were never there. It’s literally that simple, there’s no secret, no trick at all. You literally just do it.
Don’t try to find ways of working around your fear, you don’t need to. Don’t try to find ways of silencing your fear, again there’s no need. Your fear is a part of you, and the highest authority within you is you yourself! You have no need to work around or silence something which you have full and total control over. Your fear will always obey you in the end, it has no choice for it possesses no will of its own and you are forever its commander. Rule yourself!
It’s Honestly That Simple
So now you know. Those two things seem so simple at first glance that many people miss them. Honestly most people miss them, but they’re powerful.
If you do just as I’ve said above, and develop a clear direction for your life, and break that direction down into individual actions and changes that you can actually work on one at a time. If you then emphatically remove fear from the equation so that it cannot hold you back from actually making those changes, there is almost nothing that you cannot achieve.
Do you see it now? The reason why you see so many people around you that are unhappy and unfulfilled in their lives? It’s because they do none of the above. Think about your own life for a second. Think about how many people you know that live their lives by simply moving wherever events take them, with no direction. Think about how many of those people don’t even know of a direction to head with their lives because they’ve never even given it any thought? And think about how many of those people perhaps would try to change things for the better if not for the fact that they’re afraid of taking a risk, or risking the change.
Now, I ask you to consider something. I’d like you to imagine for a second, how many of those people would be both more successful and vastly happier within themselves if they lived their lives according to the above principles. Wouldn’t you agree that practically all of them could benefit from doing such a thing?
Wouldn’t you benefit from doing so?
You have to live the life that you should be living. You don’t have enough time to waste living a life that has no value to you or anyone else. You have to start now by finding out where you need to go, and then pushing past your fear so that it doesn’t stop you from going there.
You need to do this now. Do this and you will open all of the doors which you need to pass through in order to reach that perfect life you imagined earlier.
Just take it one door at a time.
